About the Authors:

Nicole Beurkens, PhD, Limited Licensed Psychologist

Nicole Beurkens, founder and director of the Horizons Developmental Remediation Center in Caledonia, Michigan, is a limited licensed psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a master’s degree in special education. She holds a professional teaching certificate with endorsements in autism and learning disabilities, and has been certified in many specialized therapies for autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. Nicole has authored numerous articles and books, and writes a popular newsletter for thousands of subscribers each week. With a background in child development, classroom teaching, and family-based therapy, Nicole is an award-winning therapist, consultant, and speaker for families and school professionals throughout the United States and abroad.

Erin Roon, MA, CCC-SLP, Speech Language Pathologist

Erin Roon is a speech-language pathologist at Horizons Developmental Remediation Center. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech pathology and education, and has over 15 years of experience teaching and providing speech therapy in school and clinic settings. Erin is a CORE Approach Consultant, a Certified Nutrition Consultant, and also specializes in oral-motor therapy and treatment of feeding disorders.

Courtney Kowalczyk, M.Ed., Certified Teacher

Courtney provides instruction and consultation services at Horizons Developmental Remediation Center. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education, and is a certified teacher with endorsements in cognitive impairments and early childhood education. Courtney is a CORE Approach Consultant, and has experience working with children and adolescents with multiple disorders.
